A structural furler is a lean and efficient alternative to the traditional roller furler. With the elimination of the aluminum profiles and the replacement of the stainless steel forestay by a textile forestay, the weight saving is impressive.
The vast majority of sailing racing boats use a structural furler. This solution is less common on cruising sailboats because a sail on a structural furler cannot be used partially furled (ribbed).
